When Does Disney World Decorate for Christmas?
When it comes to the holidays at Walt Disney World, there are three questions we receive more frequently than any other: “When will the Christmas decorations be put up in the parks and resorts?” “When will the Christmas decorations be put up in the parks and resorts?” and “When will the Christmas decorations be put up in the parks and resorts?” That is the question we will address in this piece.
In case you’re interested, the second most often asked question is: “How can I acquire tickets to witness the ABC Christmas Day Parade in person at Walt Disney World?” The answer is simple: (We’re sorry, but we have some terrible news for you on that front.) “When are Christmas decorations taken down?” is the final question in the top three.
For starters, the Christmas season typically begins on the first Friday in November–in this case, on November 4, 2022–and ends on the first Friday in December.
We are hoping that, unlike the previous two years, the Christmas decorations will not be reduced back for Christmas 2022.
- Last year’s alterations were prompted by Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary celebrations, which took precedence over both Halloween and Christmas festivities.
- One thing to keep in mind if you’re looking forward to seeing Christmas decorations at Walt Disney World is that they go up much sooner than you may anticipate.
- Literally overnight, just about the time that the fall decorations are being taken down.
- This is not the case, however.
- In the first place, it used to be correct.
- First and foremost, because Walt Disney World continues to produce time-lapse movies demonstrating the metamorphosis of Main Street USA from Halloween to Christmas.
- Finally, it is down to perspective on the part of the guest.
It’s an astounding sight to witness, and one that may lead you to believe that everything happens “at once.” However, not all of the details are complete at that moment, and the other parks are not completely decked up either.
However, despite the fact that the Walt Disney World Christmas season will not officially begin until early November in 2022, it is likely that decorations will be put up before then.
This is a reasonable assumption because many Christmas decorations will be put up at the same time that Halloween decorations are taken down.
Following Magic Kingdom, guests will be able to visit Animal Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
During the month of October, both parks have been known to put up more ‘ambiguous’ Christmas decorations than usual.
It is expected that the completed project will not be ready until closer to the formal start date of Christmas 2022, and that the lights will not be turned on until then.
It is possible that this may happen gradually, so certain things may not be available until the next week.
Epcot is the final theme park to participate in the holiday festivities, and this is due to the lucrative 2022 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival, which continues until the end of the month.
It is not expected that the front of the park would receive substantial decorations this year due to the amount of development taking place there.
The resort hotels are the genuine wildcards in this scenario.
We anticipate that this trend will continue, with nearly all big hotels (including Deluxe and Moderate Resorts) having their Christmas trees, gingerbread displays, and other holiday decorations up by the middle of November.
The majority of the time, Holiday Services can complete an entire resort in a single night, with crews dispatched to numerous resorts at the same time.
Even if Holiday Services decorated two hotels in a single night, the procedure would take more than two weeks to complete because to the enormous quantity of resorts in Walt Disney World.
It fluctuates from one year to the next.
By the next weekend, you should notice even more things being installed, and the procedure should be around half-complete.
If you come back a week later, you’ll see the same number of decorations at the parks, but half of the resorts will also be decked up in holiday cheer.
If you come around Thanksgiving week or any other time in December, everything at Walt Disney World will be decorated for the holidays!

What do you think of Walt Disney World’s ‘method’ for decking the halls for the holidays? Do you have any questions? Is it too early to put up Christmas decorations on November 4, 2022? Are you looking forward to spending the holidays at Walt Disney World? Do you have any queries for which we can provide answers? Disney World Christmas Guide 2021: Best Decorations, Activities, and Tips for Christmas Visits
Visits to Disney World are wonderful throughout the year, but there is something particularly magical about coming during the Disney World Christmas season. This is our favorite time of year because of the great selection of Disney World Christmas decorations, events, and entertainment available. Make use of our comprehensive 2021 Disney World Christmas guide to learn about the options available and to arrange your own memorable holiday celebration.
When Does Disney World Decorate For Christmas?
The Magic Kingdom is the first area to be transformed into a Christmas wonderland during the Disney World Christmas celebrations. When the Magic Kingdom changes from Disney After Hours Boo Bash to Disney Very Merriest After Hours, the atmosphere changes from eerie to festive in what seems like an instant. Between November 1 and the first Christmas after-hours event, expect to see Magic Kingdom decorations go up across the park. Holiday decorations begin to appear in Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom as early as November, and are generally completed by the middle of November.
- The majority of the Christmas decorations are completed at Disney World resorts by the middle of November.
- Disney Springs will host an outstanding Christmas Tree Stroll, including a plethora of magnificent Christmas trees with Disney themes.
- Disney World’s Christmas decorations are up until the New Year’s Eve, but there isn’t much more to see after that.
- It wasn’t until the next morning that all of the Christmas decorations were vanished altogether.
When Is The Best Time To Visit Disney World For Christmas?
The best time to visit for the holidays is from a few days after Thanksgiving to approximately a week before Christmas. Although the Disney World Christmas crowds are modest, everything related to the holiday season is open and functioning. In particular, the first week of December offers a wonderful combination of Christmas events, manageable crowds, and beautiful weather, making it our favorite time of year to visit Disney World.
Is it impossible for you to travel between Thanksgiving and Christmas? If you don’t mind missing out on the Epcot Festival of the Holidays, mid-November is a decent time to book a Disney World Christmas holiday option.
Where Can I Find Disney World Christmas Decorations?
The quick answer is that Disney World’s Christmas decorations may be found all over the place. At Disney World resorts, theme parks, and Disney Springs, you’ll see Christmas trees, wreaths, flowers, and other decorations that are specifically suited to the season. Approximately 1500 Christmas trees were put up across the Disney World resort by Disney World cast members.
Magic Kingdom Christmas Decorations And Activities
The Magic Kingdom’s renowned holiday experiences are what most people think of when they think of Disney World over the holidays. Entering Main Street, United States of America and seeing a 60-foot (18-meter) Christmas tree covered with 60,000 lights and 1800 ornaments sets the tone for the beauty of a Disney World Christmas from the moment you step into Main Street. Wreaths, bows, and a variety of other festive Magic Kingdom Christmas decorations can be found inside each exhibit window and all down Main Street, United States of America.
Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade
There’s excellent news for Magic Kingdom visitors who want to visit between December 22, 2021 and December 31, 2021. On these specific occasions, all guests will be able to enjoy the iconic Magic Kingdom Christmas parade, which is generally only available to those who have Disney Very Merriest After Hours tickets. Check the My Disney Experience app for the most up-to-date information on parade performances.
Disney Very Merriest After Hours
The new Disney Very Merriest After Hoursevent takes place at Magic Kingdom. Disney Very Merriest After Hours is an additional paid late-night event that has less people and shorter wait times at attractions. In addition to shorter wait times, Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade, the first parade at Disney World since early 2020, will return this year. During Very Merriest After Hours, this procession winds its way across Magic Kingdom, showcasing famous Disney characters on holiday-themed floats.
This adorable Christmas fireworks extravaganza made its premiere in 2019, but it was put on hold in 2020.
Magic Kingdom Jingle Cruise
Jungle Cruise, a classic attraction, receives a festive makeover for the holidays, becoming Jingle Cruise instead. Holiday enhancements include a tropical-inspired Christmas “tree” in the queue as well as holiday-themed décor scattered throughout the ride. Even the Jingle Cruise jokes have been given a festive makeover, with a slew of holiday-themed puns and tales.
In one instance, our skipper instructed us to wave not just to the wonderful folks, but also to that one nasty individual, as we were leaving the pier. He then exclaimed, “You know what you did!” before continuing our tour in a calm and collected manner.
Hollywood Studios Christmas Decorations And Activities
Despite the fact that Magic Kingdom is the most popular Disney World Christmas park, I believe the prize should go to Disney’s Hollywood Studios instead than Magic Kingdom. Hollywood Studios offers beautiful themed decorations in each location, as well as a wonderful walk-up holiday light projection display and a character lunch tailored to the holiday season.
Sunset Seasons Greetings
The Hollywood Studios are a collection of studios in Los Angeles, California, that are dedicated to the entertainment industry. A wonderful addition to the collection, Sunset Seasons Greetings helps to fill in some of the blanks left by the fan favorite Osborne Spectacle of Lights. The external Tower of Terror facade is transformed into a gorgeous winter wonderland at night, which is a pleasant surprise. It is possible to see Sunset Seasons greetings on a continuous loop with a 15-minute pause throughout the night, from twilight until park closing.
- For example, in a brief film broadcast on the billboard, the Swedish Chef creates a gingerbread home, and then the tower is transformed into a gigantic gingerbread house.
- The other three themes are Muppets, Frozen, and Mickey’s Christmas Carol.
- At the conclusion of each tower projection display, lasers slash through the sky, illuminating the “snow” that is falling on the street underneath the tower.
- An additional advantage of having Sunset Seasons Greetings played on a continuous loop is that the audiences come and go at their own pace.
Minnie’s Holiday Dine at Hollywood and Vine
Despite the fact that character dining will look very different in 2021, Minnie and her companions will still be dressed in their best Christmas attire for Minnie’s Holiday Dine at Hollywood and Vine. During Minnie’s Holiday Dine, Santa Goofy, Minnie, Mickey, Donald, and Daisy all move about the restaurant, spreading far holiday happiness to those who pass by them. Prepare your camera for distant shots of these adorable characters in their wonderfully suited outfits.
Santa Claus Motorcade
Santa Claus’s Motorcade, which will debut at Hollywood Studios in 2021, is a new attraction. Wiggle your toes in the direction of Santa as he cruises down Hollywood Boulevard in his bright red convertible, so he knows you’ve been nice this year. Motorcade schedules may be found on the My Disney Experience or Disney World apps.
Jingle Bell Jingle BAM!
Although it was stated that Jingle Bell Jingle BAM will return in 2021, the show had yet to begin as of mid-November. This Christmas fireworks spectacular at Hollywood Studios depicts the narrative of Lenny and Wayne, two prep and landing elves who are on a mission to track down Santa, who has gone missing during the holiday season.
There are some inconsistencies in how this presentation connects the tale to the projections, but generally, the show’s projections, music, and pyrotechnics are all rather impressive.
Hollywood Boulevard Christmas Decorations
The amazing decorations that surround Disney’s Hollywood Studios begin as soon as you step foot onto Hollywood Boulevard and continue throughout the park. Decorations such as garland and wreaths are strewn across the roadway, while sparkling stars adorn the lamp poles.
Echo Lake Christmas Decorations
My favorite decorations at Hollywood Studios are in the Echo Lake area. The nostalgic décor, as well as a Christmas playlist that includes songs from my personal collection, making it seem like home. The big Christmas tree is magnificent during the day, but it is even more impressive at night, when the dazzling lights illuminate the lake, which is filled with ornaments that float on the surface of the water.
Toy Story Land Christmas Decorations
Unfortunately, these wonderful Toy Story Land decorations were not in place by the middle of November in 2021. When I asked cast members if they expected the area to be adorned this year, they said they couldn’t say whether or not decorations would take place. I’m posting this part in the hopes that Toy Story Christmas decorations may materialize, but I’d want to caution you that they may not be available for the 2021 holiday season. Toy Story Land is decked out in festive decorations, many of which are very charming.
Each of the characters in Toy Story Land has a distinct seasonal flair to their outfits, as do their accessories.
Across the table from the Hamm sugar treat is a giant green army guy, who appears to be supporting the sugar cookie.
Woody’s lunchbox is adorned with a popcorn and cranberry garland, and even Rex is decked out in reindeer antlers atop Slinky Dog Dash.
Epcot Christmas Activities
Disney Springs and the other theme parks open their doors later for Christmas events than Epcot. In this year’s holiday season, Epcot will open its doors on November 26 and remain open through December 30, 2021.
Epcot Candlelight Processional – Returns November 26 through December 30, 2021!
After missing this lovely version of the Christmas tale in 2020, we are thrilled to learn that Epcot Candlelight Processional will be returning for the first time in 2021. The Christmas nativity tale is told by a celebrity narrator with the assistance of a large choir and a 50-piece orchestra in this production. At Walt Disney World, the Candlelight Processional at Epcot is one of the most beautiful and moving ways to commemorate the holiday season.
Epcot International Festival of the Holidays
During the Epcot International Festival of the Holidays, guests may learn about the holiday traditions of each country represented in Epcot World Showcase. In addition to costumed storytellers bringing Christmas tales to life, seasonal kitchens, as well as a cookie promenade, provide gastronomic reasons to enjoy the holidays at Epcot.
Animal Kingdom Christmas Activities
The Animal Kingdom does not want to be left out, too, and features some newer Disney World Christmas items as well as some distinctive seasonal decor. There are Christmas decorations throughout the park, but Discovery Island featured the best decorations in the Animal Kingdom, in my opinion.
Animal-shaped luminaries are attractive in the daylight, but at night, their warm glow makes these unique decorations much more stunning. The design is completed with greenery and natural touches in a way that is consistent with the Animal Kingdom theme.
Christmas Character Flotillas
Discovery River comes alive with the sounds of festive music as Disney characters dressed in their finest holiday gear float down it. It’s no secret that Disney World’s Animal Kingdom flotillas are a popular way to meet the characters, and I’m confident that the Christmas version will be just as popular.
Holiday Tree of Life Awakenings
Disney World Christmastime transforms the iconic emblem of Animal Kingdom into a dazzling display of holiday illumination. During Disney World’s 50th Anniversary celebrations, these holiday-themed projections will alternate with the Animal Kingdom Beacons of Light projections in the park. During the holiday season, the Tree of Life Awakenings begin at dusk and continue intermittently until park closing. Check the Disney World app for the most up-to-date information on the precise start time. The Holiday Tree of Life Awakenings was a charming show that was far more successful than I had anticipated it to be.

Where Are The Best Free Disney World Christmas Decorations?
Disneyland and Disney World theme parks are the only venues where visitors must pay a charge to view Christmas decorations. Touring the Disney World resorts and Disney Springs is a fantastic, cost-free opportunity to see the Christmas decorations at Walt Disney World.
Taking a different approach from the previous Disney Springs Christmas Tree Trail, the stroll will disperse twenty beautifully adorned Christmas trees across Disney Springs. Pick up a map at one of the participating places, search for all of the trees on the map, and present your map to get a reward.
Jock Lindsey’s Holiday Bar
This eccentric bar and restaurant in Disney Springs, which is usually known as Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar, has been given a festive makeover for the holidays. Decorations appear to be hung or resting on every conceivable surface, even the ceiling. Christmastime at the bar is made even more enjoyable by the use of riotous colors and extravagant décor.
Disney World Resorts
This odd bar and restaurant in Disney Springs, which is usually known as Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar, has been given a festive makeover. A plethora of ornaments appears to be hanging from or resting on every possible surface. The pub comes to life around the holidays with riotous colors and extravagant décor.
Grand Floridian Resort Christmas Decorations
The Grand Floridian, on the other hand, is decked up in its customary holiday splendor. It is the most spectacular gingerbread home on Disney World Property, and it is located at the Grand Floridian. One of the most popular Christmas decorations at Walt Disney World is the massive 16-foot (5-meter) tall Grand Floridian gingerbread home, which stands at 5 meters tall. Once you walk inside the Grand Floridian, you can smell the incredible gingerbread mansion that has been created. The scent of gingerbread penetrates the air throughout the large foyer, which is spread across many levels.
One of the most distinctive aspects of the Grand Floridian’s gingerbread house is the treat store located within the magnificent and tasty structure.
Because of these two stunning displays, as well as the fact that the Grand Floridian is easily accessible via the monorail, Disney’s Grand Floridian is one of the greatest spots to see Disney World Christmas decorations.
Beach Club Resort Christmas Decorations
A functional gingerbread and chocolate carousel can be seen in the foyer of Disney’s Beach Club Resort. The horses are constructed of chocolate, and the remainder of the carousel is built primarily of gingerbread, according to the manufacturer. As the carousel turns continually, you can examine each horse in great detail.
Yacht Club Resort Christmas Decorations
The nautical-themed Christmas decorations at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort add a unique touch to the traditional holiday decor. Christmas tree decorations in the shape of boats, tons of blue-hued lights, and classic ornaments in blues and gold give the lobby Christmas tree a distinct nautical feel that complements the Yacht Club concept. A Christmas village exhibit with model trains passing through the town can be found just off to the side of the lobby entrance. It is simple to go to the Yacht and Beach Club and look at the Christmas decorations.
Final Thoughts On Disney World Christmas Decorations, Tips, And Activities
Disney World during the Christmas season is a lovely time to enjoy a range of holiday-themed attractions and experiences. It is, however, difficult to accomplish everything within a single Disney World Christmas holiday since there are simply too many possibilities to choose from. Disney World’s Christmas decorations are breathtaking, with extravagant details that become even more impressive upon closer scrutiny. Each resort and theme park has its own unique Christmas decor, which we find to be quite appealing.
It is preferable to visit after Thanksgiving but before school Christmas vacations since it offers the finest combination of various activities as well as less people in general.

When Does Disney World Take Down Christmas Decorations?
Walt Disney World is well-known for its annual nighttime Christmas decoration session, which takes place the night after Halloween. The Halloween decorations at Magic Kingdom are taken down in record time, and the Christmas decorations are put up in an equally impressive amount of time. How long does it take for the Christmas decorations in Orlando to be taken down? The response is constant, but it is not always as quick as it could be. Image courtesy of Disney At Magic Kingdom, the Imagineers put on their famed nightly decoration session, which is a sight to behold.

- The first Monday following the beginning of the new year is when the decorations will begin to be taken down gradually.
- Around the 3rd or 4th of January, Christmas tree centerpieces or external decoration accents can be added.

Best Time to Visit Walt Disney World Resort During the Holidays
Allow me to introduce you to possibly the most crucial issue before we get started: The ideal time to visit Disney World during the holiday season. Many individuals plan their trips to Disney World for the holidays months or even years in advance. To put it gently, the 2020 season was exceptional, and while many individuals who had previously booked trips had decided “not this year,” many more are now thinking “let’s go to Disney World!” When it comes to the Christmas season, we strongly advise you to begin thinking about getting tickets and making Disney Park Pass reservations as soon as you are able.
In general, we believe that any time you have the opportunity to visit Disney World is an excellent time to do so.
During the Christmas season, however, there are some periods that are better than others for visiting. Most of the year’s busiest days take place during Disney World vacations. The following are the busiest days of the season when it comes to crowds:
- The week leading up to Thanksgiving, which includes Thanksgiving Day and the Friday after Thanksgiving
- And The week leading up to Christmas, including the day itself
- New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day
- The week between New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day
If you can attend Disney World Christmas activities on days other than these, you’ll be in a better position to enjoy the festivities. If you are unable to do so, do not be discouraged! You’ll still have a good time as long as you put in some effort ahead of time to make the most of your vacation. Christmas at the Walt Disney World Parks
The first thing we’ll do is give you a general summary of Christmas in the parks. Links open in new tabs on your browser.
Christmas at Magic Kingdom
Disney Very Merriest After Hours (previously Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party) takes place in Magic Kingdom, which is the centerpiece of Walt Disney World’s Christmas celebrations. This paid event will take place on certain evenings during November and December, and tickets are required. It includes one-of-a-kind entertainment (including fireworks), food (including some that are free), and character sightings, among other things. The first after-hours party of 2021 will take place on November 8, and the last party will take place on December 21.
- The majority of the decorations were put up between November 2 and November 7 this year (we skipped 2020 for the obvious reasons).
- Magic Kingdom has long been known for providing some memorable vacation experiences.
- The nightly presentation “A Frozen Holiday Wish” has been a tradition in previous years, and it is also when the castle is illuminated with “icicles” throughout the evening.
- It has been customary for the Trolley Performance and Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire (the castle stage show) to be decorated for the holidays starting in early November.
- In the year 2021, the event will commence on November 26th.
- It has not yet been confirmed whether or not the program would return in 2021.
- Unique cuisine (primarily cupcakes atHollywood Studios’ fast service restaurants) and product items, as well as decorations and character welcomes are available during the day.
Tower of Terror projections will “alternate” between the Sunset Seasons Greetings projections and the 50th Anniversary “Beacon of Magic” projections, according to an official Disney statement. I take this to suggest that it will receive both projections every night, although the language is vague.
Christmas at Animal Kingdom
In 2019, Animal Kingdom received its first comprehensive seasonal makeover! Even if it suffered a reduction in offers in 2020 (as did everything else), we anticipate a recovery in the following year. So far, we anticipate that November 12 will deliver
- The return of seasonal décor
- Festive Disney character flotillas drifting down Discovery River
- A holiday version of Tree of Life Awakenings (which takes place on most nights)
- And much more.
The official parks blog release is a little hazy on what to expect from the Tree of Life restoration project. While they claim that it will be given the “Beacon of Magic” treatment to commemorate the 50th anniversary “most nights,” they also claim that during the holiday season, a “holiday edition of Tree of Life Awakenings” will take place “most evenings.” A few of hotels also provide exclusive holiday items, however we haven’t been able to identify any regular trend in this regard. We’ve seen ornaments all over the place, but we’ve also spotted mugs at a couple of hotels.
