Tissue Paper Flowers: The Ultimate Guide

Have you ever tried your hand at making tissue paper flowers? The fact that they are a simple, affordable craft that can be utilized in a variety of ways is a plus. This page is your one-stop resource for all you need to know about tissue paper flower arrangements. Everything you need to know will be available in one convenient location!

How do you make tissue paper flowers?

  1. Stack many layers of tissue paper in a nice stack in front of you to start with. (See the size chart below for more information.) Begin by folding 1 inch strips of tissue paper together until the entire length of the tissue paper has been folded together. A stapler can be used to hold the center in place. Make certain that the staple passes through all of the layers of tissue paper. Both ends of the tissue paper should be shaped using scissors. The following chart shows the many ways you may trim the ends as well as how the flower will look
  2. Scroll down a little to view it. Folds should be fanning out as you begin to separate each layer. Fluff and shape the blossom till it is pleasing to the eye.

Just in case any of that was unclear, I’ve created a short video tutorial to show you step-by-step how to construct tissue paper flowers from scratch.

How do you make BIG flowers out of tissue paper?

Changing the beginning width of your tissue paper and the number of layers you use allows you to create whatever size tissue paper flower you like. The greater the size of the bloom, the greater the number of layers required. Here’s a useful reference chart to help you get an idea of what you’re looking at. The width of the tissue paper after it has been accordion folded is represented by the first number. The second number indicates the number of layers of tissue paper that should be used.

How do you make different tissue paper flower shapes?

The way you trim the ends and how thick you create the folds of your tissue paper flowers may easily be changed to provide a different look for your flowers. I folded tissue paper flowers four different ways in the photo below, and each of the four flowers turned out absolutely differently! With the first flower, I cut extremely large petals and folded somewhat thicker folds, resulting in a flower that is fluffy and larger in size. The second bloom has a scalloped edge, which is a very classic design.

The use of many colors of tissue paper, such as I did in the last flower example above, is another option to vary the look of your project.

There are a plethora of other versions that might be used. Allow your creativity to run free!

How do you make tissue paper pom poms?

Tissue paper flowers are flat on the back in my head, but tissue paper pom poms are ball-shaped in my thinking. You may build a tissue paper pom pom that is lovely and spherical using one of two methods. Choose one of the following options: construct two flowers of equal size and join the flat sides of both flowers together to form a spherical –or– double the amount of tissue paper sheets you start with. In certain cases, this results in a completed form that is somewhat less than precisely round, therefore I prefer to join two blooms together instead.

How do you hang tissue paper pom poms?

Tufted tissue paper flowers have a flat back, but pom poms made of tissue paper have a spherical form in my imagination. The following are two different methods for creating an attractive and circular tissue paper pom pom. Choose one of the following options: construct two flowers of equal size and join the flat sides of both flowers together to form a spherical –or– double the amount of tissue paper sheets you begin with. Occasionally, this results in a completed form that is less than precisely round, which is why I prefer to join two flowers together instead.

  • Tie a ribbon or fishing line around the centre of the folded tissue paper, just where the staple is, before fluffing it (between steps 4 and 5 in the preceding stages). You may hang the thread once you’ve fluffed the tissue paper up a little bit. This set of clear Command Hooks(affiliate link) that are specifically designed for party decor is one of my favorites. My tissue paper flowers and paper lanterns were hung in a corner of my craft space with the help of these hooks. Take a look at the photo below. Attach flat-backed tissue paper flowers to the wall using masking or packing tape to keep them in place temporarily. If you want to keep the tissue paper flowers on display for a long period of time, you may adhere them to the wall with push pins or Command Strips. Over time, the tape may come undone. Simply bury the push pins in the fluffy areas of the tissue paper and they will be completely invisible

Where’s the best place to buy tissue paper?

Dollar Tree is my favorite site to get tissue paper; but, if you are intending to make a hundred tissue paper flowers for a wedding or other event, I recommend purchasing tissue paper from Amazon because they have the finest color choices. The ideal price you’re looking for is around 5-7 cents per sheet, and there are many different sellers to choose from. Tissue paper at Dollar Tree costs 4 cents per sheet, but it is only available in a few colors.

How do you decorate with tissue paper flowers?

This is the most enjoyable part! You can use tissue paper flowers in a variety of ways, which is great for creativity. Listed below are a few inventive suggestions gleaned from various sources on the internet. More information about each tissue paper flower craft may be found by clicking on the links provided below each image. See what I mean about tissue paper flowers being my favorite? They are extremely affordable, quite adaptable, and they have a strong aesthetic impact! Don’t be afraid to give them a go the next time you’re struck with a creative itch.

6 Easy DIY Paper Party Decorations

We’ve only been in the New Year for a couple of days, but we’ve already reached that stage of being stir-crazy. That the whole country has been gripped by a “polar vortex,” forcing temperatures to fall, isn’t helping matters, either! Making indoor activities a high priority in our family therefore becomes increasingly important. In addition, we have a birthday celebration to arrange for this coming Saturday. In my capacity as a blogger, I usually experience a pang of guilt when I reveal that we’re hosting the party somewhere other than our house.

  • Perhaps we could create a garland to hang around the beautiful kids art studio that will be hosting our small get-together.
  • Even if you don’t have a party planned, these projects, which include the garland, are a great way to warm yourself on these chilly days.
  • Thanks to Design Mom for the tutorial.

10 of Our Most Beautiful Tissue and Crepe Paper Crafts

Making these handmade paper sculptures is simple, and they will appear to be real flowers in full bloom when they are finished. To begin, cut two four-inch squares of yellow tissue paper from the sheet of paper. Fold the squares in half after stacking them. Cut the fringe along the open side of the garment with fringe scissors, keeping the fold intact. A length of wire measuring eight inches should be inserted within the fold. Scrunch tissue paper around the wire to form a little pom-pom, which will serve as the “stamen.” In order to create a “stem,” fold the wire in half and twist the ends together.

  • Cut the following “petals” with ordinary scissors: Incisions are made into one long side at three quarter-inch intervals, with a one-inch margin down the opposite side.
  • Construct a pink rectangle with the petals facing up and wrap it over the yellow stamen, wrapping it firmly but not so tightly that the paper is stretched.
  • Wrap floral tape around the base of the coil, making sure to cover the rubber band, and then wound it around the wire stem.
  • Then, in order to open the bloom, bend the petals back.
  • To make the leaf, cut a five-inch piece of green crepe paper with the grain of the paper running vertically across the paper.
  • Trim the edge of the leaf using normal scissors to create a circular shape.
  • Alternatively, you may place it inside a circular wooden box next to the lotus bloom, or you can bind the leaf and blossom stems together using floral tape.
  • Party City sells tissue paper at 99 cents.

How to Make Tissue Paper Pom Poms

Following the publication of our gender reveal party, several of you expressed an interest in seeing a tutorial on how I produced the tissue paper pom poms. People, this is your fortunate day because it is pom pom creating time using tissue paper time. It is my intention to demonstrate not only the simple process of making tissue paper pom poms, but also how to create 5 tissue paper pom poms (1 giant, 2 medium, and two little) from a single $.99 packet of tissue paper. Once you’ve gotten the hang of it, they are quite simple to produce.

In order to make the pom poms, though, you must “watch” something that you don’t actually have to pay attention to because you will need to watch what you are doing.

I was “watching” old Grey’s Anatomyepisodes on Lifetime as I was putting together the majority of my decorations for the gender reveal.

Supplies for Making Tissue Paper Pom Poms

Several of you asked for a tutorial on how I made the tissue paper pom poms after seeing our gender reveal celebration on Instagram. You are in fortunate, since it is time to make tissue paper pom poms for the masses today. It is my intention to demonstrate not only the simple process of making tissue paper pom poms, but also how to produce 5 tissue paper pom poms (1 giant, 2 medium, and two little) from a single $.99 packet of tissue paper. Once you’ve gotten the hang of it, they are quite simple to construct!

The only catch is that you have to “watch” something that isn’t really important because you’ll be watching what you’re doing while producing the pom poms later on!

How to Cut and Fold

Make the tissue paper as flat as possible. Divide the 10 tissue sheets in half, resulting in 5 and 5 tissue papers in each stack. One stack should be placed to the side. Fold the tissue in half accordion style to make a square. Once the strip has been folded, split it into two parts. One should be 6 inches in height. The other should be 14 inches in length. Take a look at the 6 inch piece. Fold the paper in half hamburger way (if you’re not sure what I’m talking about, look up “fold paper hamburger style” on Google).

I refold them in the form of accordion folds, only smaller than the initial fold, so these will be the tiniest pom-poms in the bunch (see photo after the photo below).

Fold it accordion-style to make it more compact.

You should be able to get the following results from a package of 20 inch by 20 inch, ten sheet tissue paper in the end.

How to Secure and Fluff

It is necessary to repeat the following processes for each section of tissue paper. Take your floral wire and place it in the center of the tissue paper (you may use a ruler if you aren’t good at eyeballing it– there is no shame in that). Just so you know, you are not need to use floral wire. When it came to making the pom-poms for our gender reveal party, I actually used jewelry wire instead of floral wire since I was out of floral wire and didn’t want to bother going to the craft store to get more.

  1. Tighten the wire by twisting it.
  2. When the final product is fanned out, it should appear like this.
  3. It’s important to remember that this is thin tissue paper, not metal.
  4. It is preferable to begin tugging from the bottom of the tissue paper layer rather than the tip of the tissue paper layer.
  5. Repeat this process until all five layers are fluffed.
  6. If required, make a cut.
  7. You can just wrap the wire around whatever you’re using to attach the pom to and you’re done.

Not everything is doomed to oblivion.

I generally take my scissors and trim it a bit so that it doesn’t seem as jagged as it does.

If you want your poms to be fuller, add more than 5 layers of tissue paper together.

Wedding showers, baby showers, weddings, birthday parties, and other celebrations are all perfect occasions to utilize tissue paper pom-poms as decorations.

I utilized them as a centerpiece for our dining room table as well as a dessert buffet centerpiece.

  • A package of 110 sheets 1 box white floral wire
  • 20-inch by 20-inch tissue paper
  1. Make the tissue paper as flat as possible. Divide the 10 tissue sheets in half, resulting in 5 and 5 tissue papers in each stack. Separate one stack of tissues by folding them accordion style
  2. Set the other stack aside
  3. Once the strip has been folded, split it into two parts. One should be 6 inches in height. The other should be 14 inches in length. Take a look at the 6 inch piece. Fold it in half hamburger way (if you’re not sure what I’m talking about, look up “fold paper hamburger style” on Google). It will be divided into two halves with five sheets of paper in each section if you cut it along the fold. Because they will be the smallest pom-poms, I refold them in accordion folds manner, but only slightly smaller than the initial fold (see photo following the photo below for an example)
  4. Take the other portion that you set aside at the start of the project and put it back together. Fold it accordion-style to make it more compact. Cut it in half so that you have two pieces of 10 inches each
  5. You should be able to get the following results from a package of 20 inch by 20 inch, ten sheet tissue paper in the end. two inches apart (14 inches, 10 inches, and 6 inches)
  6. It is necessary to repeat the following processes for each section of tissue paper. Pick up the floral wire and center it in the centre of the tissue paper (use a ruler if you aren’t good at eyeballing it, no shame)
  7. Twist the wire tight
  8. Then, pick up your scissors and round off the corners of the tissue paper
  9. Fan out the tissue paper on each side of the wire
  10. Begin GENTLY, I say again, gently moving the top layer of tissue paper up and toward the center of the paper holder. It’s important to remember that this is thin tissue paper, not metal. In the event that you use too much force, it will rip. It is beneficial to begin tugging from the bottom of the tissue paper layer rather than the tip. After that, bring the top layer of the opposite side all the way up to the center. Repeat this process until all five layers are fluffed. Bend the wire so that the tissue paper pom-pom lies flat on the table. If required, make a cut. Alternatively, if you want to attach the poms to something, leave the wire in its current state. If you’re attaching the pom to something else, you may just wrap the wire around it.

You shouldn’t be too concerned if you chance to rip a portion of your pom-pom when constructing it. Not everything is doomed to oblivion. The majority of the time, it will simply blend in. I generally take my scissors and trim it a bit so that it doesn’t seem as jagged as it does. If you don’t care about having different-sized poms, you may just make four medium-sized poms instead. If you want your poms to be fuller, add more than 5 layers of tissue paper together. It is important to remember that practice makes perfect, so don’t get discouraged if your first few pom-poms don’t turn out perfectly.

It’s best if you pin it here:

How to Make Tissue Paper Pom Poms

Tissue paper pom poms are a simple and inexpensive decoration that anybody can make with little effort. Today, I’m going to walk you through the process of making paper pom poms. You may use these gorgeous tissue paper pom poms to decorate your home or office, whether you’re getting ready for winter or just seeking for something different to do with your space. No matter where you hang them, these beauties appear as if they have just jumped out of a home décor magazine page. Featuring a feathery appeal as well as an ethereal form, they are the ideal way to embellish that drab corner that has been nagging you.

A Great Craft for Teens, Kids, and Even Adults

Anyone in your family is welcome to get their hands dirty with this project (figuratively, of course). These paper pom-poms are appropriate for children of all ages, from toddlers to teens. In fact, constructing these decorations with your family is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon together. Who says you can’t bond over tissue paper and yarn? Gather your friends and family around your dining room table and get to work. Are you ready to get your hands dirty? Let’s get this party started! And don’t forget to make this tissue paper craft!

Supplies You’ll Need for 3 Pom Poms

Follow these step-by-step instructions and you’ll have lovely pom poms in no time at all.

Step 1

Begin by gathering all of the materials you’ll need. I used three different varieties of tissue paper: two solid colors and one patterned, all from the same color family (blue). When they’re put together, they’ll make for a fascinating display.

Step 2

Make a “fan fold” using a folded piece of tissue paper by folding it in half. Pick up one edge and fold it in about a sixth of the way, then pick up the other edge and repeat the process. Continue to do so until you have a corrugated form on your hands.

Step 3

Next, get the yarn out of the bag and cut it to the necessary length. Because this is the thread that will suspend your pom-poms once they are completed, the appropriate size will depend on how you intend to hang them. Instead, I used a piece of thread that was the length of my forearm. Am I correct in stating that it is preferable to have too much or too little?

Step 4

Fold the tissue paper in half and tie it around the centre with the yarn, twisting and securing it tightly. You should be able to see the ends of the tissue paper spreading out on their own a little bit.

Step 5

Fold the tissue paper in half and tie it around the centre with the yarn, twisting and tying it tightly.

You should be able to see that the ends of the tissue paper are spreading out a little bit on their own.

Step 6

It’s time to dress it up a little bit! Grab your scissors and go to work on the ends of the tissue paper bundles as soon as possible. You may cut it in any manner you like to make some unique forms. If you flare out the pom poms, these forms will take on a whole new level of interest. So don’t be frightened to try something new! If you’re stumped on how to trim the ends, I attempted four different techniques for you to choose from. Try them all out and see which one you prefer the most, or experiment with other shapes for a more wild and dynamic look.

Step 7

It’s time to add some “fluff” to our pom-poms, which will help them stand out from the crowd. Simply start on one side, as I have shown below, and work your way around the “fan” form you established with your folds. Having laid out the folds, walk into the room and separate each sheet of tissue paper from the other sheets of tissue paper. The curvature of each sheet is what allows us to get the much desired feathery pom-pom look!

Step 8

Once you’ve finished with the first side, it’s time to start working on the other. The goal is to strive to match the volume of the sides as closely as possible, since this will result in a rounded, ball-like form. To put it another way, a pom pom!

How to Make a Paper Pom Pom of a Different Size?

Changing the size of the pom-poms creates a more interesting ornamentation (after all, repeating the same size can look a little uniform). It’s simple to do: just stretch out your tissue paper and stack it as desired. This should provide you with a significant increase in working volume. Making smaller pom poms by eliminating some tissue paper layers is also an option if you want to go in the opposite way. There is no limit to what you can do!

How to Use Pom Poms for Decorating

Don’t be concerned if you’re running out of ideas; I’ve got you covered. As previously said, they are among of the most adaptable decorations available, and you may customize them to meet your specific requirements. Here are just a few examples of how you may use these pom poms into your décor to elevate it to the next level:

  • Hang them from tree branches or arrange them in a vase. Attach them to fake stems and arrange them as if they were real flowers. This is a flower that will never wilt, and I challenge you to discover blossoms like this in the wild
  • Fill a glass pillar vase with a large number of miniature pom poms in complementing hues to create a one-of-a-kind, eye-catching centerpiece.

Crafts with Tissue Paper: 50+ Ideas for Kids or Adults

Kids and adults alike will enjoy making crafts out of tissue paper! Discover more than 50 ideas for tissue paper crafts, ranging from presents to home décor and more! I’m thrilled to be able to share my thoughts today on tissue paper, which I believe is a greatly underappreciated creative resource. You know, the kind of things you put in gift bags to make your product look a little puffier? That sort of thing. It’s sheer, and it’s available in a plethora of hues. In addition to being useful for gift wrapping, this material is excellent for crafting.

These are excellent suggestions for both youngsters and adults.

These initiatives, on the other hand, are enjoyable for everyone involved.

However, the problem with tissue is that, while it is not particularly difficult to utilize, it is brittle to a certain level.

As a result, I’m thrilled to share some advice with you today. In fact, the following are some of my favorite suggestions for working with tissue paper that you should be aware of before you begin:

  1. When working with tissue, make sure your scissors and punches are extremely sharp. Using aluminum foil, punch or cut numerous times to sharpen them is a good idea (I outline more crafting tips like thathere). Instead of folding the paper with dull instruments, you should punch numerous sheets at a time if you want thin tissue to come out of your punches. Using only one sheet of paper will not result in a neat cut, and the paper will simply fold. The number of sheets produced is determined by the punch, so experiment a little. When the tissue is moist, the dye begins to be released. It does, however, take a minute. So if you’re using it with Mod Podge, you may brush over it, but don’t go overboard with the brushing. When you apply it for the first time, brush it down just enough to make it smooth (you can use your fingers carefully too). After that, allow to dry. If you continue to manipulate it at this point, it will tear and release the color, resulting in a sloppy mess. Rather than working with complete sheets, little squares or portions are more manageable (because wrinkles). The majority of these crafts need for smaller pieces, but there are a few that call for bigger sheets (especially the party-themed ones).

Are you ready to get your hands dirty with the projects? The projects listed below include a little bit of everything – tissue paper flowers, party crafts, gift ideas, home décor, and more – and I’d say the most of them are appropriate for children. Please experiment with one of the craft ideas and then let me know what you think in the comments section.
