You are not limited to a single interior design style, such as “rustic” or “minimalist,” because the majority of people prefer a look that is a fusion of several various interior design types. Your survey answers will represent your nuanced, unique tastes, and you will be provided with the tools you need to bring your style to life in your physical environment.

Developed By Designersand Engineers

Interior designers, design historians (we’re talking PhDs here!) and world-class engineers collaborated on the development of the Modsy style quiz. The ultimate product is a decorating style quiz that is both artistic and technological in nature, resulting in very precise style predictions. As a result, your style outcomes are not influenced by your ideal holiday.

Turn Your Results into Your Reality

Popular Design Styles

Do you want to discover what type of outcomes other people are receiving with their style? Become acquainted with three of the most popular design styles among Modsy customers!

Mid-Century Minimalist

This is a pleasant and fresh appearance that mixes great classic shapes with a clean, minimalist feel. The clean lines and contemporary design found in these spaces are a nod to the less-is-more movement.

Cozy Rustic Farmhouse

Interior Design Style Quiz FAQs

Many individuals can identify what they enjoy (and don’t like) when they see it, but they have difficulty describing exactly what it is that they like about something. The Modsy interior design style quiz, on the other hand, was built with this precise problem in mind. Therefore, rather than a series of questions, our quiz relies on images to determine your personality (we will never ask you about your perfect vacation or what your ideal pet would be). Nothing more than looking at a few photographs and telling us which ones you like and dislike is required of you.

For example, you may enjoy Mid-Century Modern couches but also appreciate industrial elements such as raw wood, metal, and stone.

How long does the Modsy style quiz take?

It won’t be long! The quiz will take between 2 and 6 minutes to complete, depending on how much time you spend debating over the photos you are presented with. We do, however, advocate not overthinking anything and instead following your instincts! It will provide you with higher results—as well as allow you to save time on the quiz.

Can the quiz combine different design styles?

Definitely! A common request we receive from clients is that they want to customize their home alongside a roommate or significant other. And that necessitates the fusion of design styles! With our style questionnaire, you and your partner may go at the photographs together and determine what you both like and dislike. We’ll examine how your styles compare and provide you a unique outcome that combines them both together in a smooth and elegant way.

What are the most popular home decor styles?

Popular interior design styles are always changing, and there is no one style that has been the most popular for an extended period of time. However, it’s fair to state that there are a few design types that are currently dominating the trend landscape at this time (and have been for quite some time). Specifically, Mid-Century Modern, Rustic Farmhouse, and Eclectic Bohemian are three of the most popular design types available right now.

How many interior design styles are there?

A practically endless number of design styles exist due to the numerous ways in which fundamental styles may be mixed and matched to create a totally unique look for each individual. In the world of interior design, we prefer to think in terms of “pure styles,” which are the fundamental styles that are at the center of all interior design. What are these “pure styles” you speak of? Mid-Century Modern, Minimalist, Contemporary, Industrial, Hollywood Glam, Eclectic or Boho, Rustic, Classic Formal, and Traditional are some of the design styles you’ll find in this collection.

More information on these designs, as well as their history, can be found in our blog post that delves into the world of prominent interior design styles.

What’s My Home Decorating Style? Quiz and Design Tips

A spot in your house that requires care, or are you ready to embark on a new DIY home renovation project? One thing to consider before you get started is if you’ve selected which home décor style best suits your home and your personality. “How about you tell me about your design style?” you inquire. Take the quick and entertaining quiz below to find out whether you got the right answer. By answering our ten questions, you’ll be able to give a name to your ideal home’s interior design. The question of whether my home’s interior design style is more Mid-Century Modern or Industrial will be answered.

With a little home design inspiration, you can begin the wheels of your home design project turning.

3 rules to follow when decorating with your home design style in mind:

Now that you’ve figured out what your house’s style is, thanks to our interior design quiz, here are our three most important principles for acing DIY home designing. Your house may be made to seem like it was designed by a professional designer – without spending a lot of money!

Rule1: Know your design style by heart.

Because, let’s face it, certain interior design trends are difficult to distinguish from one another (hello, Minimalist and Scandinavian!). So, how can you ensure that the design you’re attempting to copy is a true reflection of your personal style?

Step 1: Start with a home aesthetic quiz.

Start with our What’s My Decorating Style? quiz to determine your own style. It’s quick, it’s all visual, and it’s entertaining to do. You might be shocked to find that the style that you ultimately choose (and that actually suits you) is significantly different from what you had in mind all along! It will also provide you with the design vocabulary you need to narrow down your search. When searching for home décor items, you may use keywords such as “industrial,” “coastal,” or “boho” to narrow down your search and discover the right match for your house!

Step 2: Take a good look at your space.

Once you’ve nailed down your own style, the next crucial step is to examine your living environment. Is a complete overhaul on the horizon? You may just require a few items to complete your look, or you may require more. Which aspects of your house are providing you with the most benefit, and which ones are not? How essential do you think it is for your home to have a lot of natural light? Is it necessary to use artificial light? The ability to maintain an open mind and a flexible viewpoint will make it simpler for you to comprehend what suits you and will keep you satisfied in the long run.

Step 3: Get inspired.

Oh, this is definitely one of our favorite steps of the whole thing. Take a step back, relax, and just let the creative energy to flow. You may get home décor inspiration on websites such as Pinterest, in your favorite home decor magazines, and even in movies or television programs. Also, take inspiration from the surroundings. Take a look about you. Inspiration from real-life, lived-in spaces is a terrific method to imagine how your room may appear if it had a similar layout or design features as the inspiration area.

Save a few images and group them together in a folder to build your home design inspiration board. When you come across fixtures, furnishings, or artwork that you like in someone else’s house, ask them for advice.

Rule2: Follow the 3 C’s: choose, consider, curate.

The second must-follow guideline of DIY interior design is to pick your pieces thoughtfully, take into consideration the specifics of your area, and curate to bring in positive sensations. First and foremost, select style components and accessories that you envision yourself (and your family) utilizing and loving in the long term. As much as we would like our space to be a reflection of our own style, practicality and utility are still important factors in creating a livable and pleasant house.

  • It’s simple to find everything and everything that reflects your personal style online.
  • Consider the quantity of light that comes into your room at all times of the day, and pick paint colors and lighting that will help to brighten the space.
  • Last but not least, tailor your home’s appearance by just bringing in items that make you feel good inside.
  • If you want to create a room that is genuinely unique, go light on the accessorizing.

Rule3: Promise to work within your set budget.

Our final criterion is where the majority of do-it-yourself designers fail. When the subject of a budget is brought up, some people find that the euphoria of imagining their dream house design quickly fades away. Working within your budget, on the other hand, should not be viewed as a source of fear or as a means of stifling your creative potential. Follow these steps to stay within your budget while still enjoying your dream home decor:

Reuse items that you already have.

It’s possible that you already have everything you need. Sort each thing you presently own into categories and determine whether or not it still fulfills its original purpose and complements your desired look. Do you have any products in your possession that have an altogether different aesthetic from the one you’re attempting to achieve? Organize a yard sale to raise more income, or give the proceeds to a local charity.

Dive into a garage sale or a secondhand store.

It’s possible that someone else’s unwanted stuff will turn out to be your treasure. Each of these institutions is an amalgam of every single style, both old and new, and might easily become an easy source of diversion. So keep your gaze fixed on the prize.

Focus on mixing rather than matching.

Purchasing large-ticket products in one transaction, such as a furniture set, may appear to be a convenient method to obtain what you need all at once. However, it may result in your money being depleted more quickly and your capacity to completely personalize your home being limited.

In order to design like a true professional, you should not be scared to mix and match your items – particularly your furniture. Maintain a single focus point and use complementary accessories.

Try your hand at DIY-ing your home pieces.

With a little effort and elbow grease, you can recreate interior design trends such as Shabby Chic and Industrial, among others, by using pieces that have been lived in for a while. DIY allows you to express your individuality and produce unique design elements that you won’t be able to find anyplace else.

5 Steps to Finding Your Decorating Style

Are you unsure of how to approach your home’s decor? These five stages for determining your decorating style can assist you in determining your particular style and achieving it!. Every time you go to purchase new furniture or artwork for your home, do you find yourself struggling to figure out what style you want to incorporate? Do you have friends who appear to be able to easily arrange their homes in a style that is ideally suited to them?

5 Steps for Finding Your Decorating Style

Throughout today, I’m going to share with you five easy suggestions to help you figure out your decorating style, along with four recommendations to help you do it on a budget!

1. Browse magazines

Pinterest is also a fantastic resource, but because there are so many beautiful images on Pinterest at any given time, it can be difficult to narrow down which style is most appealing to you. Instead, flick through magazine pages one by one, tearing out photographs of rooms and residences that you are particularly drawn to as you go. Simply rip out what you adore–there is no right or wrong way to do it! Examine the photos you’ve torn out and try to figure out what they have in common.

2. Take an online quiz

Many online questionnaires are available that are intended to assist you in determining your personal decorating style. Select a few of design style quizzes to complete at your convenience. If they provide similar outcomes, you may be confident that you are on the correct course. They are entertaining and may truly assist you in defining your personal style. This one from Houzz and this one from Better Homes and Gardens are two that I would recommend.

3. Look to your wardrobe

Take a long, hard look at some of your favorite pieces of clothes. Take note of the colors and textures in the room.

Is the majority of their content neutral? If this is the case, you may choose a more neutral color scheme for your house. Is it true that your favorite garments are brightly colored and have strong patterns? If this is the case, go for a comparable style when selecting textiles for your house.

4. Pay attention to the exterior of homes

Identify the houses in your city or town that make your heart go pitter patter as you drive around. Whether they are conventional brick residences or minimalist and futuristic structures, the question remains. If you prefer modern architecture, you will most certainly appreciate the clean lines and minimalism of contemporary home décor as well. In the same way that you appreciate old architecture, you will likely appreciate traditional furniture, such as couches with rolled arms.

5. Take an inventory of your current decor

Take a walk around your house and make some notes. In each area, compile a list of furniture/art/accessories you adore, and a separate one of those you wish you could change. Then go back over your list of things you enjoy to identify what they have in common, and make a note of those similarities. Keep that list with you at all times when you are making purchases for your home–it will act as an excellent guide to help you stay on track with your design aesthetic! Once you have a better understanding of your personal style, the next step is to figure out how to achieve it without spending a lot of money.

Paint

The power of paint should never be underestimated. It is a low-cost and adaptable option. You have the ability to paint almost anything. I’ve painted everything: cabinets, walls, flooring (vinyl and wood), furniture, and even the backsplash in my kitchen! Paint can transform your space on a dime and give you a whole different appearance.

Do it yourself

By completing a room renovation on your own, you may save a significant amount of money. You should paint the walls yourself. You may make the curtains and cushions by yourself. You may do the refinishing or painting yourself. Make no apprehensions about attempting it! Many do-it-yourself projects are simple enough that even the most unskilled homeowner can do them. Look through DIY blogs and chat to the workers at your local home improvement store for advice on DIY projects.

Shop flea markets, consignment stores, yard salesCraigslist

Many folks on a limited budget simply cannot afford to purchase furniture from a store that sells it fresh new. You may discover fantastic prices on furniture, light fixtures, and art at flea markets, consignment stores and even yard sales, which is a welcome relief from the current economic climate. Hunting for bargains can be entertaining, and you can often find items that are of significantly higher quality than many of the items that are manufactured these days.

Go shopping in your own house

This is my favorite piece of advice! I fully transformed my laundry room for only $71 in out-of-pocket expenses by repurposing old drapes, paint, and accessories that I had stored in our attic previously. You would never know it! It’s possible that the curtains that didn’t work in your new home’s dining room would work perfectly in another room. Explore your attic, closets, and/or cellar to find new ways to repurpose existing furniture and décor.

PIN FOR LATER

Find out what your design style is by taking this fun and quick Interior Design Style Quiz from Tidbits Twine! Make use of the information provided in the findings to begin designing your ideal environment right now. I’ve had a lot on my plate these last few days. I’ve put together a fun (and completely free!) questionnaire for you to participate in. Even if you believe you already know your design style, it’s worth taking the quiz to see what comes up! Given the fact that fashion is continuously evolving, you may be shocked by the outcomes.

Does Knowing Your Style Matter?

Both yes and no. Your own style should be irrelevant to everyone else but you. However, it should be a representation of your personality. So, does it make a difference if you know your own personal style? Yes. Yes, it does. The reason behind this is as follows.

Shopping Will Be Easier

You’ve probably had the feeling of walking into a large department store and being overwhelmed by the racks of apparel that take up numerous levels. But then you discover that everything’s organized by department, which makes it much simpler to find exactly what you’re looking for. And then it’s narrowed down even more by size (although, recently, I’ve been unhappy with the size I’m buying.but that’s another story.). Knowing your design style can help you narrow down your options. In a furniture store, you won’t have to look at every sofa because you’ll already know the model of sofa you want!

  1. Decorating Paralysis, as I like to refer to it, is one of the most difficult obstacles to overcome when it comes to home decorating.
  2. So why not make things easy on yourself by knowing what you like and don’t like before you go shopping?
  3. Understanding the distinction between enjoying beautiful items and determining whether or not they are appropriate for your house is critical here.
  4. Well, not if it’s not your style, of course!
  5. So let’s speak about your emotions a little more.

You’ll Be Happier

Believe me when I say that after you figure out your design style, you’ll be much more content. When you discover your personal style and your house changes to reflect it, it becomes a true representation of.well, you!

You should be surrounded by items that make you feel at ease in your house if you want to feel comfortable there. If you’ve never given any consideration to what you enjoy and don’t like, you could be surprised at how much some of thosethey-looked-good-in-the-storeaccessories are pulling you down!

Does Everyone Have JustOneStyle?

No way, not at all! In the same way that every individual has subtleties to their personality, your design style will have nuances as well. Your design style will develop over time as a result of your life experiences, current design trends, stage of life, and other factors. As a result, what you pick now may be different from what you would have chosen 10 years ago, or even what you would choose in 2 years! A variety of styles can be used in conjunction with one another to create a cohesive look.

Traditional and Rustic, for example, can coexist peacefully while not being called Eclectic in any way.

20 Ways to Identify Your Design Style

In the course of our blogging journey, many of you have inquired about the process of developing your own design style. A reader of mine just reached out to me through direct chat with this exact question. She and her husband are relocating and beginning a new chapter in their lives. She is attempting to define her own personal style and is searching for advice on how to accomplish it. It is my goal that 20 Ways to Identify Your Design Style may be of assistance to those of you who may be having difficulty.

Let’s get this party started.

1. Pin with Reckless Abandon

Architectural firm Barnes Vanze & Associates, Inc. Despite the fact that I do not spend a lot of time on Pinterest, I do so when I am seeking to create a new area. It’s not something I take too seriously. I search for “mater bedroom” or whatever it is that I am searching for and pin anything that gets my attention. The key is to avoid overthinking things or picking apart the area too much. If it elicits a response from you and draws you in, pin it. When it came time to create our pantry, I went ahead and did exactly that.

Once you pin for a number of weeks and look back over the board you will find commonalities.

You are drawn to a style that makes you feel good about yourself. Gray cabinets, as well as warm tones, were prevalent in nearly all of my pins. The appearance of common threads will be revealed. It’s actually a lot of fun to go through the procedure. (Take a look at what I’m pinning.)

2. Consider Your Personality

Do you like to play it safe or do you prefer to take chances? For the reason that you may choose a more neutral design that is simple to look at for an extended amount of time if you are not willing to take any risks, I pose this question. Going large or brave can undoubtedly pay off, but it will not sit well with you if you are not comfortable with upsetting the apple cart too often. While it may be enjoyable to be pushed beyond of your comfort zone, your house should provide you with the greatest amount of comfort, thus understanding your personality is essential.

3. Tour Model Homes

When I posted this picture of my house on Stories and the blog, you all went crazy. Model homes are one of my favorite things to see. It’s something I’ve done since I was a child. My parents would arrange for us to accompany them, and I would race from room to room, envisioning which one would be my own space. Looking at model homes, on the other hand, may be really beneficial. If you come into a store and are instantly put off by the style, it is probable that you are not a good fit for that particular style.

If you come into a room and your shoulders relax and you want to remain for a while, snap a few pictures!

Something doesn’t feel quite right to you.

4. Shop Your Own Home

Table|chairs|chandelier By now, most of you are familiar with the tale, but this table was one of the first things we bought together after getting married. You can view the entire reveal of our breakfast nook here. Please don’t give up on anything that may be there in front of your face. It’s possible that you have furniture in your home right now that only needs to be refreshed. The lines of this table were quite appealing to us. We adored the classic look it possessed. The finish was a little shabby, so we gave it a fresh coat of paint and it looks like a completely different table now.

5. Don’t Talk Yourself Into It

Ever. Just don’t. It’s similar like wearing a dress or a pair of shoes. In the event that I get a new dress and do not reach for it inside the first couple of days, this indicates that I do not truly enjoy it. It’s the same with design. Something that you don’t immediately fall in love with or bring into your house is unlikely to be loved at all. I’ve been there myself. If it is, in fact, your style, you should be a fan from the beginning of the process. Now, I understand that some of you may disagree and argue that things can grow on you with time.

6. Visit High End Stores

If you live in Dallas, you are in for a real treat! Caitlin Wilson only launched her business yesterday night, according to her Facebook page. It is critical to develop your design intuition. When you wander around high-end stores (even if you have no intention of making a purchase), you are doing research. Items that appeal to you will be on exhibit, as will displays that pique your interest and colors that make you happy. You’ll be able to discover which pieces of furniture make you feel most at ease.

As a designer, I believe that excellent design encompasses both high and low prices, therefore perhaps you might invest on something that offers you tremendous delight. Lighting, in my opinion, is always a good spot to do this.

7. Flip Through Magazines

Yes, those were the old-fashioned mags. Remove pages from your book that you find yourself returning to. Place them in a folder for safekeeping. Just as when you pin photos, you’ll begin to see what it is that you are drawn to. It also allows you to see how places may be designed if you are not particularly gifted in this area.

8. Avoid Trends

Look, we’re all susceptible to being sucked into the latest craze or fashionable trend. That’s fine and dandy if you absolutely adore it. If you don’t care for shiplap, even if it’s all over the place, don’t use it in your home. It’s as easy as that. Despite the fact that fashion comes and goes, one thing I’ve learned is that sticking to what you like is far more satisfying than following the latest fashion trend, even if it doesn’t get you on the cover of a home magazine. What does it matter?

If something is currently popular yet you are enthusiastic about it, go ahead and do it.

9. Think About Friends’ Homes

This is the magnificent home that my sister has built for herself. I like each and every room in her house, and her home is a constant source of inspiration for me. Consider the residences of your acquaintances. Not in a condescending manner, but just to observe what draws you in and makes you want to remain a while longer. Alternatively, you may choose to leave. Is there a place in your house that you look forward to entering every day? If this is the case, take note of their fashion sense.

10. Try Things Out

The vast majority of retailers provide generous return policies. Purchase that coffee table you’ve been eyeing and experiment with it in your room. Sometimes the only way to find out is to give it a go yourself. Check it out and see if you like it. If it doesn’t work, try again. I’ve bought a number of goods home from HomeGoods just to discover that they didn’t exactly perform as intended. But it’s all right. Every step is necessary in the process.

11. Scroll Through Your Favorite Blogs

Blogs provide a large volume of high-quality information. Consider a few of your favorite bloggers and pay a visit to their respective blogs. What is it about them that you like? Is it because of the colors? What about the design? What is the purpose of pattern? You already know how much I admire Studio McGee, and this mudroom is no exception. In their creations, I constantly find something to be inspired by. A great deal of inspiration may be found from my DIY Playbook gals as well. I really like the way they keep things simple and uncomplicated.

12. Visit the Anchor Stores

Do you have a Pottery Barn or a West Elm store in your neighborhood? Grab a cappuccino and wander the day away. Wander in and out of stores and notice which ones lure you in. Start to notice whether you’re drawn to mid-century modern design, classic design, or something else else. Take photographs of vignettes that you find appealing.

13. Pay Attention to Restaurants You Frequent

Coastal Kitchen, located in Dana Point, California, features a very beachy and relaxed atmosphere. It’s a complete contrast to the atmosphere at Nick’s in nearby San Clemente. Restaurants are intentionally constructed to elicit a certain feeling. It’s possible that you’ll prefer one over the other depending on your preferences.

Don’t underestimate the importance of your neighborhood coffee shop. Ellie’s Table is conveniently located nearby, and I adore everything about the interior décor. In fact, there are some striking parallels between our newly constructed pantry and the one in our previous home.

14. Would You Pay Full Price?

Think about whether you would pay full price for a piece of furniture you like and want to bring into your house when you saw it for sale at a wonderful price. This seems absurd, but occasionally your design might go in the incorrect direction just because you have discovered a good offer. You are aware of my hypothesis. Don’t rush into anything and take your time. With the final outcome in mind, you’ll be lot more satisfied.

15. Save Photos on IG to Folders

This is one of my all-time favorite methods of keeping track of sources of inspiration. When I first saw this image from The Pink Dream, I immediately saved it to my computer. After I’d gotten my jaw back up off the floor, that is. If you’re new to Instagram and don’t know how to organize your photos into folders, this tutorial will help you out. I save a space as soon as it catches my eye and I have the opportunity. When I go back through the gallery, I see that everything is done in the same way.

16. Envision Your Dream Room

Take a deep breath and close your eyes as you try to visualize your ideal bedroom. Some people will find this practice simple, while others may find it tough. If you are able to do so, make a note of what you observe. What colors do you want? What kind of furniture is it, and so on. Another method for gaining an understanding of what determines your personal style.

17. What Are Your Family’s Needs?

More of this donut celebration please! This is something that simply cannot be ignored. It’s possible that you adore marble and see it everywhere, but you also have four children and host a weekly pasta night at your residence. It is quite unlikely that this specimen will be used for marble. It’s not that you can’t, but let’s be realistic here. You must be aware of the way your family lives. I usually remark that my family has a difficult life. And that is exactly what we do. The children were educated from an early age to respect our property, not to eat on the sofa, and other such lessons.

  • That is something we appreciate.
  • We have no qualms about getting scratches and dents.
  • So be aware of what your family need.
  • If that’s the case, I’m really envious.

18. Hit up the Library

My favorite thing to do is to take a stack of design books and flip through the pages. That’s something I could do all day. Perhaps you find yourself returning to the accommodations that are more up to date on a regular basis. However, you enjoy the conventional as well. Don’t be intimidated by this. It’s quite natural, and it’s fun to experiment with different looks.

Our family room is furnished with a mid-century contemporary sofa that is surrounded by more conventional components. If you really like something, there’s almost always a way to make it work. The fact that you and your spouse have two very distinct tastes is extremely encouraging.

19. Engage in Pillow Talk

Bring a companion who has a keen sense of design with you to HomeGoods. Inquire if she can assist you! She can put together a few of pillow combinations to get a sense of what colors and patterns you like and don’t like to begin with. Take her out to lunch and take pleasure in your time together. have a look around this room

20. Hire Someone (after 1-19)

Bringing in a professional might be beneficial if you are still having trouble putting things together on your own. They have the ability to bring your ideas to life in a stunning manner. From time to time, I hear stories about friends who were dissatisfied with the final outcome. I believe that part of the problem is that you really need to complete your assignment first. If you perform some of these activities to get a sense of your own personal style, you’ll be more prepared to make selections when faced with a variety of possibilities.

I hope this list has provided you with some viable avenues for beginning your exploration of what it is about design that actually interests you.

You don’t have to incorporate every amazing concept or design into your house décor;

Traditional or Classic

Traditional or classic home design is rich in ornamentation and detailing.

  • Curves abound in the furniture, such as curled sofa arms, tufting, and curved legs on tables, among other things
  • The use of floral or organic patterns that are reminiscent of those same curves It is customary to arrange items in pairs, such as matching table lamps on either side of the sofa. The color pallet is frequently subdued
  • The traditional end of the spectrum is often characterized by a large number of dark wood tones.

Modern

Modern home décor is characterized by its use of clean lines and a lack of ornamentation.

  • There isn’t much texture
  • Layout that is asymmetrical
  • Accessories are only used in limited quantities. Clean graphic patterns are used in conjunction with clean lines.

Rustic or Industrial/ Urban

There is a lot of texture in rustic and industrial home décor, as well as hints to unfinished and raw materials.

  • Tons of texture: wood, stone, and metal
  • Exposed components such as wiring, pipes, brick walls, and beams
  • Non-functional repurposed materials utilized as ornamental ornaments or features
  • And repurposed items that are not useful but look like they are.

Source Ok. So you’re probably thinking to yourself, “Corey, there are aspects of each of those that I enjoy.” And you’re right. I completely get what you’re saying. I’m in the same boat! Return to the process of identifying your personal home design style and determine whether or not what you liked leans toward one of these distinct decorating styles. Keep your attention on the features that I’ve mentioned for you under each style, and note which of those aspects appears most frequently in the items you’ve gathered or in your favorite area.

Writing Your Personal Home Decor Style Definition

Begin by imagining the general atmosphere you want to create in your room.

  • The overall emotion you want the room to convey
  • The major decor style (from above) that you were drawn to the most
  • The runner-up decor style from above or the winner chosen by your significant other

As an illustration, here’s one of mine: Stylish and comfortableModern and traditional Clean lines are definitely my go-to when it comes to selecting the larger (and more costly) pieces for my house, and you already know how much I adore geometric patterns, but I don’t want my home to seem stark or frigid. Instead, I want it to be welcoming, and including some classic features into the design will help to achieve that goal since there will be some touches tossed in that I also enjoy. Take, for example, the sofa in my family room, which is charcoal grey and has square arms (super clean lines.) Even though it’s placed on top of a huge area rug with a graphic design (which also has clean lines), the cabinetry on our built-in has some detail on the doors, which provides just a sense of traditionalism while also bringing some comfort into the room.

The next step in the series is to learn how to combine different types of home decor!
